We are partnering with a premier academic health system to hire an expert-level Outpatient Coder II. This fully remote position is dedicated to handling high-complexity outpatient records, including observation stays, same-day surgeries, and ambulatory surgical center cases. The ideal professional will serve as the department’s authority on outpatient reimbursement, leveraging a deep understanding of disease processes, anatomy, and pharmacology to ensure precise coding and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
• Complex Coding: Accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS (Level I & II) codes to highly complex outpatient encounters.
• Edit Resolution: Expertly navigate and resolve NCCI edits using appropriate facility modifiers and Chargemaster knowledge.
• Documentation & Queries: Review clinical documentation thoroughly and initiate compliant provider queries to clarify discrepancies.
• Performance Standards: Consistently meet or exceed strict departmental benchmarks for productivity (90%) and accuracy (95%).
• Technology & Optimization: Utilize 3M Encoder software and actively support the optimization of Computer Assisted Coding (CAC) tools by identifying and reporting system routing errors.
Required Qualifications
• 4+ years of active coding experience within an acute care hospital setting.
• Must hold an active RHIA, RHIT, or CCS credential.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and maintain high performance in a fully remote environment.
